Synopsis

José Luis, Manuel, Sergio y Martín are people with special needs who are rehearsing during several weeks for a percussion concert. 

Isabel is an old lady who tries to fix her memory through singing and dancing traditional songs with the help of some experts and friends. 

Cristina is a teenager diagnosed with developmental delay. Music therapy is helping her express her feelings and improve her language significantly. 

Manuel is at a palliative care hospital, spending his last days playing and singing music with his relatives. 

Rosa has a degenerative neurological condition and has to re-learn how to walk, how to remember and how to smile. 

Music will be the key.

Bamby Salcedo is turning 50 years old. For most people, a 50th birthday is a time of reflection, but for Bamby, it is a moment to celebrate. She is a true survivor: a transgender, HIV-positive, undocumented immigrant, victim of multiple sexual assaults, in recovery from narcotics addiction.

In documentary “LA QueenCiañera,” filmmaker Pedro Peira follows Mexican-American transgender activist Bamby Salcedo as she prepares a 50th birthday celebration in Los Angeles attended by the people who helped her survive.
